Update
It has been a long time since my last blog post.
The past five months have been dominated by academics (took five fascinating courses during the second semester, taught by everyone from Richard Fallon to Orlando Patterson), extracurricular engagements (most notably with the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter as an overnight supervisor, the Harvard Democrats as their campaigns director, Institute of Politics fellow Emma Sky as a liaison, and the Harvard Political Review as the interviews editor), indulging in events (got to shake hands with the Vice President at one event and listen to the President at another), professional work (fortunate enough to intern with Atlantic Global Aid and continue to advise for the NGO, also currently interning with Generation 44 in Boston and working on starting a chapter in Portland), traveling (went to South Carolina for a Habitat for Humanity trip, spent much of last week on Nantucket Island), and spending time with friends and family (including my girlfriend, who recently wrapped up her gap year spent farming in Brazil and Uruguay).
This summer will be equally as busy. I’ll continue doing work with both Generation Forty Four and Atlantic Global Aid. In addition, I’m excited to say that I will be managing the campaign of Portland mayoral candidate Jed Rathband and also interning, Monday thru Friday, with the Obama Victory Fund in Boston. As a result, I’ll be bouncing back and forth from Portland to Boston often. I’ve also vowed to catch up on reading this summer- a couple books I plan on reading include Connected (which is co-written by my future housemaster, Nicholas Christakis) and The Longest War by Peter Bergen, who I had the good fortune to meet earlier this year.
So, unfortunately, the amount of time I can devote to blogging will continue to be limited. However, I hope to chime in now and then to provide my perspective on the most recent news, and be sure to keep an eye on my page over at the Harvard Political Review, since I sometimes forget to cross-post.
Also, keep in touch! I’ve met many great people through sharing my thoughts on this blog, and I’d love to stay updated on your happenings. Email me at thompson.simonm@gmail.com or connect with me on Twitter.
Cheers.
